Networking Fundamentals
The course begins with foundational concepts in network theory and terminology, covering network components, node functions, and different network types and models. A thorough understanding of the OSI and TCP/IP models is developed, highlighting encapsulation and key network protocols. Data transmission methods and Ethernet principles, such as CSMA/CD and CSMA/CA, are introduced. Networking standards for both wired and wireless systems, along with critical hardware like switches and routers, are explored. The curriculum dives into TCP/IP, including binary numbers, CIDR notation, ANDing, and routing configurations using both standard and NAT routers. DHCP and DNS configuration is taught, followed by an in-depth look at traffic regulation between network zones, incorporating DMZ setups, IDS/IPS technology, and VPN configurations. The course also covers advanced troubleshooting for wired and wireless networks, with practical skills gained through the use of packet sniffers. Network simulation software is used to provide hands-on experience, and the program culminates in a capstone project that demonstrates mastery of all course objectives.
